They have organized an EMS implementation committee to engage in various activities.◦Introducing LED lightingAs an initiative to help reduce CO₂ emissions and save energy, Maruho has been gradually introducing LED lighting, not only to production sites but also to R&D facilities and Tateyama Pharmaceutical Factory Co., Ltd. ◦Regional environmental measures in case of a floodBased on the hazard map of Shiga Prefecture, where our two plants are located, we are examining the inundation risk due to heavy rains. We periodically conduct flood drills for the purpose of avoiding risk on production and preventing environmental damage to neighborhood residents. ◦Cleaning campaign In Hikone City and Nagahama City, where our plants are located, we launched a volunteer cleaning campaign contributing to conservation of the environment.As a member of global society, Maruho Hatsujyo Kogyo has acquired ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, as well as ISO 13485, an international certification for quality management systems related to medical devices.◦Initiatives for conservation of energy and resourcesTo promote efficient use of energy, we have gradually introduced LED lighting. We also encourage setting the temperatures for air conditioning at 28°C in summer and 20°C in winter throughout the Company, and promote “Cool Biz” during winter. We will continue to make efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions through introducing hybrid vehicles for sales activities and promoting eco-driving.Inundation risk drill (Hikone Plant in 2020)At the Kyoto R&D Center, based on the awareness that all activities related to reseach and development of pharmaceuticals have an impact on the environment, we promote environmental management activities to minimize this impact, aiming to achieve harmony with the global environment.◦Energy conversionWe are working to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions through initiatives such as using the energy-saving mode for air conditioning, introducing CO₂ concentration control, and adjusting seasonal humidification settings to reduce the burden of humidification and dehumidification.◦Saving resourcesWe are working to improve efficiency in operations and reduce use of paper by promoting the use of electronic meeting materials and introducing electronic signatures/confirmation.◦Green procurement We are promoting the replacement of products used in R&D activities with eco-friendly goods and biodegradable plastics.◦Waste reductionWe thoroughly separate waste generated in our R&D activities while working to reduce the amount of industrial waste such as chemical substances and materials generated.◦Initiatives to reduce plastic useThe machinery business division is working to develop, manufacture, and sell sustainable blister packaging machines made of paper and stone materials. To help inhibit mass consumption of resources and resolve waste problems, we thoroughly separate plastic waste while recommending the use of personal bottles and bags via Company newsletter articles.
