Maruho Report 2021
23/58

21Activities Other than Prescription Drugs for Skin Diseases / Management Base In order to achieve the new tasks in the Fourth Medium-Term Plan and continue steady growth, it is necessary for Maruho to strengthen its management base, including human resources and corporate culture. Maruho has set “Management base to support further growth” as a strategic goal and is advancing initiatives to improve productivity by allowing all employees to be autonomous and creative. After the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, Maruho accelerated work-style reform, which it had promoted since before the pandemic. The Company launched a “project to examine new work styles in the new normal era” in June 2020, to formulate the Company-wide policies on new work styles that benefit the new normal. The project focused on “exercise of creativity,” “improvement in productivity,” “autonomy of employees,” and “enhancement of management capabilities,” and determined four key work-style concepts: “Anywhere,” “Autonomous,” “Connected,” and “Happy.” Specific initiatives include encouraging work-from-home, promoting paperless procedures for various applications to improve work efficiency, updating the internal job-posting system, holding one-on-one meetings to promote autonomous action by employees, and conducting career training by age group. Also, to realize work-life balance, in addition to the existing initiatives to promote flexible work styles, Maruho has introduced an hourly based paid leave system for production departments. (Please see “Maruho’s Co-creation—Society” on page 29.) In order to advance these initiatives, workplace discussions are held to exchange opinions on this project at each department. Maruho will continue efforts to realize new work styles while proactively introducing opinions and ideas from employees. As represented by the term VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity), the environment surrounding society is changing rapidly, irreversibly, and unpredictably. In particular, the spread of COVID-19 has dramatically changed our lifestyles, including work styles. To make continuous efforts to maximize its corporate value, Maruho flexibly responds to changes in industry and society, and endeavors to establish a management base that allows all employees to work autonomously, creatively, and productively. The “new normal era” project to propose new work stylesothers inside and outside the Company to achieve resultsand voluntarilyManagement base to support future growthManagement Base“New normal,” leading to creativityConnectedConnect with HappyEnjoy workAutonomousAct autonomously AnywhereWork efficiently
