16 Maruho has approximately 500 MRs, who lead Maruho’s information provision activities and maintain close relationships with nearly all of the roughly 9,000 dermatologists in Japan. Not only providing information on our products, they are working sincerely to respond to the diverse needs of medical front lines. In an MR evaluation survey targeting dermatologists around Japan, Maruho MRs have won the highest general evaluation 14 consecutive times (seven years). Their comprehensive information provision utilizing both written documents and digital media contributes to the QOL of patients. The Fourth Medium-Term Plan positions “High-quality information provision reflecting the voices of patients” as an important theme, aiming to respond to the diverse needs of customers by supporting networking of medical professionals involved in skin disease treatment.Regarding skin diseases, lack of correct knowledge and treatment methods is a factor that undermines the QOL of patients. In order to improve patients’ satisfaction with treatment and QOL, Maruho has been making efforts to help patients have access to appropriate medical treatment. Acne is a disease that occurs repeatedly if not treated properly, and may sometimes leave scars. To encourage patients to receive appropriate treatment, Maruho has distributed leaflets and posters with basic knowledge about acne to elementary and junior high schools around Japan since 2017. The Company also released a YouTube video featuring actor Tomoya Nakamura as part of the information communication initiatives targeting mainly young people. We also formed a team of “acne coordinators” to be engaged in providing information exclusively on acne. The team is promoting information provision both in person and through digital media. Specifically, distributing knowledge obtained through communication with dermatologists via digital means. These efforts resulted in an increase in the treatment continuation rate at medical institutions, contributing to the improved QOL of patients. Herpes simplex infections, such as oral herpes, are caused by fatigue or stress and often recur. However, many patients ignore signs of recurrence and put off receiving treatment because of the inconvenience of visiting a doctor. Maruho has acquired the indication of PIT* for recurrent herpes simplex for the first time in Japan, working to increase understanding of this, with the aim of contributing to improving the QOL of patients.
