Maruho's History

1915Koba signs an agreement with Mulford of the US and set up a company in Doshomachi, Higashi-ku, Osaka.

1920Company becomes Maruho Shouten, a limited partnership.

1939 Company reconstitutes itself as Maruho Shouten Co., Ltd.
1943Under the special Industrial Adjustment Act during the war, Maruho merges with Wakyo Pharmaceuticals.
1949Maruho Shouten Co., Ltd. once again established.
1954"Hirudoid" goes on sale.
1965Company changes name to current Maruho Co., Ltd. "Posterisan forte" goes on sale.
1968"Mobilat" goes on sale.
1972Hikone Plant completed.

1985Maruho publishes "Collection of Haiku from the Showa Era" to celebrate 70th anniversary.
1997Head office moves to current location.
1998Company establishes R&D Laboratories in Kyoto Research Park, where all R&D is concentrated.
1999Company establishes Pharmaceutical Research Laboratories in Hikone.
2000Hikone Office (plant, pharmaceutical research laboratory) was granted ISO14001 certification.
The R&D Laboratories was renamed R&D Center.
2002Maruho announced a long-term vision "Global Boutique Company for Dermatology"
2003Maruho presented a new corporate symbol mark.
2005The 90th anniversary of the founding in July.
2006Company establishes Drug Discovery Research Laboratories in Kyoto Research Park.
2007 January
Eastern Japan Distribution Center brought into operation

New production wing - the building's fourth - built at Hikone Plant

Maruho receives the Mecenat Award for Networking Haiku Poets in Category A (Mecenat Grand Prize) of the 2007 Japan Mecenat Awards.
