The Hikone Plant, which has been called the “factory in a garden,” is the company's production base and located amid verdant surroundings with many water features and sculptures. As a small Gulliver in the field of dermatology, we have built a manufacturing and quality control system that has made Maruho the nation's No.1 producer of topical prescription drugs.

Our Hikone Plant was one of the first to comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) , which shows our commitment to high quality pharmaceutical manufacturing under rigorous quality and manufacturing controls in all stages of the manufacturing process. By using comprehensive automation processes on our manufacturing lines and establishing an efficient production system capable of responding swiftly to market needs, we have enabled this plant to provide a steady supply of products based on Maruho's outstanding proprietary topicalization, drug formulation techniques and expertise. Located upstream from Lake Biwa, a Quasi-National Park, our Hikone Plant was a pioneer in implementing environmental conservation initiatives as an eco-friendly factory. The plant has a wastewater treatment facility that meets the latest environmental standards, and all its facilities－including air conditioning, water and sewerage, and electricity－are controlled from a central monitoring room for efficient operations. This plant has acquired ISO 14001 certification, an international standard, and will continue to promote eco-friendly manufacturing practices.
